How PEACE began

A team in London set up the PEACE service for adults who have eating disorders and are also autistic and their experts by experience chose the name PEACE. We have used their idea to develop a service in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire, BOB for short. We are the first PEACE team to be set up in the community for children and young people, and are very excited about the work we have been doing!

We know that around a third of people with an eating disorder are also thought to be or known to be autistic, so PEACE is increasing awareness and understanding of autism and making sure that care is inclusive for autistic young people who have an eating disorder.

What PEACE BOB are doing

We are a service for young people, their families, and professionals.

PEACE works with existing teams to improve understanding and awareness of co-occurring eating disorders and autism, as well as promoting inclusive eating disorder treatment. We do this through:

Delivering webinars to support people to better understand autism and why eating disorders need to be thought about differently for autistic young people.

Developing resources for all the people that care for and support autistic young people.

Finding out from autistic young people with eating disorders and their families what they want us to know and making sure that this information is then used to help decision making and inform future practice.

Talking to people that support young people and their families and finding out what information they need. We are then developing resources based on what they have told us.

Providing consultation to health professionals to think about autism and eating difficulties and adapting eating disorder treatment.
