referral process and thresholds

We have heard from professionals from education settings, child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), paediatrics and third sector organisations that it can be difficult to know when and where to seek support for a young person.

This page includes referral processes and thresholds for a number of services, and where to seek advice if needed.

Eating Disorder Services

When to seek help:

Below is a link about when to seek help for an eating disorder and how to refer to eating disorder services. Please remember that different areas will have varying thresholds and waiting times.

Here are some documents for General Practitioners (GPs) on making a referral to eating disorder services (which has been developed by Oxford Health).

Neurodevelopmental assessments

If you are seeking a neurodevelopmental assessment, this can be accessed via a general CAMHS referral. Please see the ‘general CAMHS’ section for details on how to refer in each county.
